We finally have a sequel to the 2016 hit Zootopia, and the big question every parent is asking is: Is it worth the cinema ticket (and the subsequent purchase for the car ride home)?
What Are Judy and Nick Up To Now?
More Than Just a Mystery: The Parent/Kid Takeaway
For Parents:
- The Trust Test: Nick, now a contented and by-the-book officer, struggles with Judy’s tendency to break rules and rush ahead. It’s a fantastic, subtle look at the strain that differing ambitions can put on any partnership. Be it police partners or parents.
- Theme of High Expectations: The film expertly tackles themes of trust, ambition, and the pressure of meeting high expectations. Judy is constantly trying to prove she’s worthy of the job, a feeling any parent juggling work and family can relate to!
For Kids:
- Bigger Action: The chase sequences are bigger, more complex, and more exhilarating than in the original. My daughter was on the edge of her seat throughout the film and has been asking to see it again.
- New Characters Steal the Show: While Nick and Judy hold the emotional core, the introduction of new characters like Nibbles Maplestick, a conspiracy theorist beaver that helps out Nick and Judy, plus provides multiple laugh-out-loud moments that a younger audience loves.

GREAT MYSTERY — Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Zootopia 2” welcomes back to the big screen rookie cops Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman). When a snake called Gary De’Snake (voice of Ke Huy Quan) arrives on the scene, he kicks off a great mystery—but Nick and Judy are on the case. From the Oscar-winning team of Disney Animation chief creative officer Jared Bush and Byron Howard (directors) and Yvett Merino (producer), “Zootopia 2” releases in theaters Nov. 26. © 2025 Disney Enterprises, Inc. The Unanimous Verdict from Our Crew
I took my second-oldest daughter with me to the preview screening, and for a movie that deals with some heavy themes of societal pressure, it was a massive hit.
We both agreed that we liked Zootopia 2 more than the first movie. It’s rare for a sequel to genuinely surpass its predecessor, but this one managed it by maintaining the original’s charm while expanding the world and testing the core relationship in meaningful ways. The world feels richer, the humor lands perfectly for both adults and kids, and the emotional stakes are higher.
Final Verdict and Why We’re Buying it ASAP
Zootopia 2 is a fantastic, funny, and surprisingly moving film that doesn’t just repeat the beats of the first one; it expands on them. It’s a must-see for fans of the original and an absolute joy for a family outing.
We cannot wait for it to be released to stream so we can watch it again. In fact, we will be buying to play in the car for any long drives! You know a kids’ movie is truly good when the parents are just as eager to rewatch it.
Watch this one on the largest screen you can find. Bonus if it’s an IMAX screen. Trust me on this, it looks incredible on the latest IMAX screens. The artistry and scope of Zootopia deserve it.
