We are ready for Fall in our house and I am so glad that it is right around the corner. Evie’s been asking for us to pull out our pumpkin decorations and everything else we normally put up. She’s also been asking to pick apples and pumpkins already. Off we headed to a local farm, Willow View Farms, to do just that.
It is a farm and orchard that has actually been recommended to us a couple times, so we were excited to check out somewhere new to us as a family. It’s a short jaunt off the highway in Abbotsford and very easy to locate. You even drive past a road named Famer Road!
Willow View Farms has been selling produce for 23 years and are proud to keep it local by encouraging people to support local farms in the community. As soon as we parked we saw several wagons in a row that were available to borrow and take into the orchard. We popped into the country store where we were given a map that directed us to which varieties of apples and other fruits were available for u-pick.
With wagon in tow we headed out to the orchard, but first, we had to stop in at the petting zoo that is located in the red barn. There were all your usual petting zoo animals… goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, etc… some of the kids managed to get under the fence and start wandering around outside. Be sure to bring some quarters with you so that you can get feed for the animals to snack on out of your hands. Afterward, you can make sure your littles wash their hands at the sinks provided, and yes there is soap!
The apples in the u-pick orchard were at the perfect height for Evie to reach and help collect. It was nice to have her be a part of this family outing. We’ve been lucky to have some great weather, but if the usual Raincouver weather for Fall hits soon I would recommend making sure to wear boots, or bring a change of shoes for the ride home.
Back at the country store, we looked around to see what else was available for purchase. There was different produce available, and everything you need to make a pie. If you don’t have time to bake your own there are frozen ones available in the freezer. We paid for our apples and grabbed a hot apple cider to enjoy on the car ride home.
While Jason loaded Addie into the car, Evie popped into the play area to get some more of her energy out. There are lots of play structures for kids to explore and picnic tables to sit at if you are wanting to sit and relax for a bit.
The Fall season is only just starting which means there is lots of time to head out to Willow View Farms if you are looking for a place to go apple picking, or get a pumpkin or two. We are hoping to go back at least one more time before Halloween!
